Nonprofit Spotlight: Parents Helping Parents

Parenting can be one of life’s most rewarding journeys, but it can also sometimes feel overwhelming. Newton-based nonprofit Parents Helping Parents supports parents and caregivers across Massachusetts through a model rooted in peer connection and shared wisdom. It offers caregivers a safe, judgment-free space for parents to share their challenges and encourage one another, helping them reduce isolation, manage stress, and foster healthy, nurturing environments for their children.
What They Do
For over 40 years, Parents Helping Parents has provided free, confidential, and accessible peer-led support to help caregivers navigate the challenges of raising children.
24/7 Parent Stress Line Trained counselors offer free, confidential, and anonymous support and guidance to parents experiencing stress, frustration, and isolation.
Parenting Support Groups Facilitated peer groups offered virtually and in community centers enable caregivers to share experiences and coping strategies.
Incarcerated Parent Programs Support groups and family-focused programs in correctional facilities help parents navigate parenting challenges and maintain connections with their children while incarcerated.
Recovery & Sober House Support Parenting groups in recovery houses and community wellness settings support caregivers in managing substance use recovery and the responsibilities of parenthood.
Community Guidance & Resources A searchable directory connects families with support services, and a free guide offers practical information for navigating the Department of Family Services and Juvenile Court systems.

Their Impact
By fostering peer connection and offering immediate, trauma-informed, non-judgmental, compassionate support, Parents Helping Parents helps reduce family isolation and strengthen community resilience across Massachusetts. Its services are free to any parent or caregiver, ensuring help is available regardless of financial barriers.
In the past fiscal year, the nonprofit’s 24-hour Parent Stress Line answered over 5,800 calls, giving overwhelmed caregivers access to compassionate, real-time support. It held more than 1,050 parenting support group meetings, offering peer connection for 4,670+ parents. It helped thousands of justice-involved parents stay connected to their children and rebuild family stability. Volunteers and interns donated over 7,360 hours to facilitate these services.
