MelanIN Medicine, Inc. is a support network for Black individuals working and studying in health and healing professions. It aims to provide safe spaces for fellowship and mentorship related to educational and professional endeavors. Outside the network, the team creates community programming that advocates for the wellness and overall advancement of marginalized groups.
Founder and president Kanisha Louis Jean started the organization in 2017 based on a desire to foster opportunities for professionals and scholars in health and healing roles to support one another. A Nurse Practitioner and wellness consultant, Kanisha is dedicated to curating safe spaces for Black healthcare leaders to connect, grow, and thrive.

As part of its mission to empower underrepresented individuals in medicine and helping professions, MelanIN Medicine offers a wide range of engagements tailored to its community, including wellness events, structured networking, volunteering, youth programming, seminars, advocacy initiatives, and mentorship. Upcoming events include Hike-and-a-Bite on Sunday, August 17, featuring a hike in the Blue Hills Reservation followed by brunch. Other recent programs have included CareerFest, Taste of Black Boston, and Black Culture Jeopardy.
MelanIN Medicine also collaborates with community organizations, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and industry leaders to positively impact communities by advocating for the wellness and advancement of marginalized groups. Recent programs have included partners such as Chase Bank Mattapan and Boys and Girls Club of Boston.
After eight years serving the Boston community, MelanIN Medicine recently expanded into the Greater DC area, where it is now continuing to build a network of Black healthcare professionals who are passionate about community, culture, and creating impact.
