In a community known for civic engagement and neighborly care, Arlington EATS has become a powerful example of what local action can accomplish. What began as a small food pantry operating out of a church basement and a summer lunch program have grown into a community-centered organization working to eliminate food insecurity across Arlington.

What They Do

Founded on the belief that everyone deserves access to healthy, nutritious food, Arlington EATS serves hundreds of residents each week through a wide range of programs designed to meet people where they are. Its market and home delivery services provide fresh produce, pantry staples, and culturally appropriate foods with dignity and compassion. The organization also supports families through school snack initiatives, vacation meal programs, emergency food closets, and partnerships with local schools and nonprofits.

Volunteers are central to nearly every aspect of the organization’s work, from stocking shelves to delivering groceries and supporting fundraising events. It takes 188 volunteer shifts per week to run Arlington EATS. That volunteer-driven model has helped the organization respond to a dramatic rise in need over the past several years while maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment for guests.

Their Impact

Since 2020, Arlington EATS has more than doubled the number of individuals it serves. In fiscal year 2025, the organization distributed approximately one million pounds of food — the equivalent of 815,000 meals — to local residents facing food insecurity. Yet beyond the numbers, its work reflects a broader mission: building a stronger and more compassionate community where neighbors support one another through difficult times.

Arlington EATS also plays an important educational role, helping raise awareness about the realities of hunger in suburban communities. By partnering with local businesses, civic groups, schools, and residents, the organization has created a network of support that extends far beyond food distribution.

At its core, Arlington EATS demonstrates how a grassroots nonprofit can evolve into an essential community resource. Through collaboration, compassion, and sustained local involvement, the organization continues to ensure that no neighbor in Arlington has to face food insecurity alone.
